Antique Made for Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver Tongs, 1916;
Up for sale is the sterling silver sugar tongs, made for Tiffany & Co and dated 1916.
The tongs with two arms hinged at one end as a wishbone and two four-leaf clovers at the edge are very pliable. One arm of the wishbone moves with a spring loaded action,
which functions well. The four-leaf clovers are used for grasping sugar cubes or holding things. As stated in Wikipedia, the four-leaf clover is a rare variation of the common three-leaf clover. This variation is said to bring good luck.
There are three engraving marks located differently, including “Sterling 27”, “Made for Tiffany & Co.”, and “May 1
st
1916”.
Measures: 4 ¼” long x 1 ¾” wide (at widest point); Weight, 1 oz (28.3 grams).
Condition: Very good and clean, with no damage, neither monogram.
