    ANTIQUE GEORGIAN LATE 18c STERLING BRIGHT CUT SUGAR TONGS WILLIAM WELCH EXETER
    Exquisite pair of Antique Georgian Sterling sugar tongs from William Welch, Exeter, England, circa 1780-1810. Beautiful bright cut design along the straight sided piece. Marked on the interior wall with three British hallmarks, a King George III duty mark, a Sterling standard mark, and a "O" date code, while the opposite side is imprinted "W.W." for William Welch (might be Jr. but not entirely sure). Hand-hammered piece is monogrammed at the bow in two lines "M, S.A".
    Piece measures 5 1/4" Long and is approximately 2" W x 5/8" Deep (at widest point, bow).
    Weighs .9ozt or 28 grams.
    Good condition. Shows scratching associated with general use along the flared arms, edges, and rounded tong bowls. Inside of tongs show rough hand-hammered marks, perhaps the piece wasn't fully smoothed. No dings, dents, or bends. 9/10.
