Superb, fancy, antique French silver gilt sugar tongs.
France, ca. 1838--1878.
Superb quality silversmith's work.
Decorative elements include 2 devil's heads.
Has 4 silver hallmarks.
2 × Minerva head marks with no.2 = .800 fine silver, used between 1838 and 1878.
Small discharge mark, visible with loupe, on middle of one side.
Partial remnant of maker's mark, with letters, on one side of curved top, visible with loupe, but hard to photograph.
Length: ca. 6 1/4 inches (ca.16 cm.).
Excellent used condition.
